Construction of the Statue of Unity started in October 2013 by Larsen & Toubro and was planned by Indian sculptor Ram V.Sutar. This statue is constructed near a river island named Sadhu Bet and facing Narmada Dam downstream.
This statue is divided into 5 zones and only 3 zones are accessible by normal people. Memorial Garden and Museum are in the first zone, the second zone contains Patel’s thighs and the third zone contains a viewing gallery at a height of 153 meters. The fourth zone is the maintenance area and the final zone is the shoulders and head of the statue.
